About the Artist

Kay | 25 | She/Her

Hi there! I'm Kay & I've been drawing for as long as I can remember.I live in the US and fell in love with Nico Robin's character when I picked up One Piece about 10 or so years ago. But then Toei did her dirty so I decided to fix that & here we are.My favorite things are cats, pasta, and memes that make me snort laugh at 3 am.I am disabled and have a chronic illness called POTS that keeps me off my feet for long periods of time, so a lot of my time is spent between working on my health and drawing things that I enjoy.* It is also worth mentioning due to the kind of edits and recolors I make that I am white. (Like, clap when the plane lands kind of white.) So, in a similar vein, please take a moment and check out the Important Information tab on the front page for more information about my edits and my intentions with them.Thanks for reading & I look forward to making fandoms the good food they deserve.

* IMPORTANT INFORMATION

[* Note: If you're a POC and you see any inaccuracies in this information that need to be changed, my DMs are always open to corrections and resources that can be added.]

* REPOSTING & USING MY EDITS: It’s incredibly flattering that people like my edits enough to want to use them, and I don’t mind so long as credit is visibly linked back to me somehow & My artwork must be given credit or relogged at the source. Thank you!

* MY INTENTIONS WITH MY EDITS:I want to specify that in these edits, what I'm doing is mixing the pre-timeskip brown skin tone Robin has in the anime with the brown eyes she has in the manga, but these racists just love to take any excuse to shit on black people specifically and POC in general.So, if someone sees themselves and their skintone in my edits and that makes them happy then I sincerely encourage them to enjoy that interpretation.Nothing makes me happier than people feeling represented and seen.

* **EXPLAINING WHITEWASHING VS "BLACKWASHING" **:To put it simply, It’s about white skinned people having a overwhelmingly vast amount of representation in media, whereas POC have very little in comparison.So, on the subject of whitewashing vs "blackwashing": Changing a characters skin tone to darken it doesn’t take much if anything at all away from white representation, because white people already have the majority of it to begin with.Whereas on the other hand, if someone lightens a POC character’s skin, they’re blatantly taking away from what representation they do have as a whole, while most often having hatred and contempt for that skin color being a large reason for doing so."Then why don't they create their own characters???" POC do and have created characters that represent themselves, but this is on the particular topic of mass/popular media where their representation is very little.If seeing an anime character given dark skin makes you angry, maybe you should step back and ask yourself why. Is it really because "it isn't true to the character!!!" or is it because black & brown skin makes you uncomfortable.Facing and unlearning the biases you've been taught is the first step to truly supporting equality.tl;dr: Whitening a POC characters skin often has hatred and contempt for POC as a whole as motivating factors, whereas darkening a character’s skin color is done to provide much needed representation so that POC can see themselves in the media they consume.

* POC SUPPORT & INFORMATION:I have absolutely zero patience for willful ignorance - especially in a time when education and information is so easily available to so many people.[Here’s a few resources if anyone would like to learn more. ⤵]

* REGARDING HATE MESSAGES: @ The nerds who feel brave enough to send angry things about my edits: Just say you’re a racist, insecure piece of shit and go lmao. Nothing you say is going to make me stop what I’m doing, so let me save you some breath."But she's supposed to be white!!!" Cool. I don't care."But she's supposed to be Russian!!!" Still don't care.Any comment involving the use of the n-word or racial slurs will be blocked and reported.POC deserve to see representation of themselves in the media they consume & if my edits make even one person happy or feel even the slightest bit seen, then I’m going to keep doing it, so don't bother.
